The customer opted for 80 percent solar screen fabric for all their windows except for the two front windows on the right side, where they selected 90 percent solar screen fabric. This choice was made because the specific room receiving direct afternoon sunlight required better shading (cooling) efficiency, which the darker fabric can provide.
The customer stated that this room is the hottest in the house, so they wanted it to be shaded more than the other windows.
This photo showcases the success of a beautiful Leander solar window screen installation. The homeowner opted for 90 percent fabric for the two windows located at the bottom right, measuring 35 by 70 inches each. Notably, the dormer window on the second floor features an 80 percent solar screen, which was chosen by the customer.
Many homeowners may decide to exclude dormer windows. However, picture this: what if the front of the house didn't have a solar screen on the second-floor dormer window, but did have solar screens installed on all the other windows?
The house would have appeared peculiar, catching your attention as unfinished.
I always recommend that people install solar screens on all the windows at the front of their home. It’s much more aesthetically pleasing when the entire front is covered, rather than having screens on only a few windows here and there.
This is a shot showing the right side of the home. We used our 80 percent sun shade fabric for this side of the home.
The solar screen you see on the left is a large window sunshade measuring 70 inches wide by 58 inches high. If you look closely, about 4 inches from the top on the left side of the screen, you'll notice where we attached the screen to the window frame using small screws.
Because these are vinyl windows, they are not designed to accommodate full-size screens. Therefore, the solar screens must be surface-mounted by screwing them directly to the window frame. There is nothing wrong with attaching the solar screens this way, as long as you know the proper placement for the screws on the window framing. At the Austin Shade Team, we always secure our solar screens to the outermost edge of the window frame. We never attach them close to the glass. This attention to detail is why you can trust the professional solar window screen experts at the Austin Shade Team.
This customer decided to install solar screens on all the windows of her brand new home, which was barely a month old at the time of installation. She had previously purchased solar screens for her former home in Leander and wanted to replicate that experience in her new house. Knowing from experience that it's important not to leave any windows uncovered, she even added a solar screen to the back patio door. Although this door is secluded and likely does not receive much sunlight, her prior knowledge led her to choose solar screens for every window, including the patio door. If the patio had faced west, it could have also benefited from our specialized patio sun screens.
The left side of this home, depicted on the right, had large horizontal sliding windows. We have built large solar screens for these windows.
